Gas gauge light stays on after fill-up.

This 1994 940 wagon always had a sluggish gas gauge. But lately it has shown
empty with light on even after the gas tank is full.
Is this an easy fix or do I have to go to the electric fuel pump site to
locate the problem. Thanks for your response.
