    Hi,

I lurk here regularly and pick up quite a bit of good info. I have a
    problem with our '89 740.

My wife just returned about an hour ago from school and now she went out to
start the car and the key will not turn more than a fraction in the switch.

I tried with my key and had the same result.

I am assuming something is amiss with the cylinder. How hard is it to get
this out to mess with it? Is there any chance it is something else
    disguised as a cylinder problem?

    Thanks for any help,

    Kirk

Try turning the wheel as you turn the key.Sounds like the steering lock is
putting pressure on the ignition switch keeping it from turning.
First try one then direction then, try rhe other.

Yep, I am embarrassed to say that this was the trouble. In our hurry to get
going to our next child commitment we just were not paying attention.

    Thanks Larry
