Volvo V70 d5 air filter.

    I recently purchased a 2005 V70 D5 and decided to check the cleanliness of the air filter. There appears to be a sponge-like membrane at the bottom of the housing and the filter has a similar type membrane stuck to the bottom.
    Is this normal ?
