I'm looking to buy a used trailer hitch for my 1990 Volvo 740 GL.
Class I or Class II (which essentially means, "any Class).

I believe that the hitches for the 740, 760, 940, and 960 are
    identical.

Located Pomona (Los Angeles County), California

Cross-posted to several groups. Please, no flamers.

    Thanks in advance!

I can confirm the hitches are the same, we've used the same one on our 85
    740 GLE, 89 740 16-Valve GLE, and our 93 960. Wagon each time, I would
assume no difference to the sedans - but get someone to confirm this for
    independant rear suspension models.

  3. My Volvo dealer recommended U-Haul. I got their trailer hitch and it
works perfectly. Class I or Class II inserts. It is custom made for
Volvos and didn't require any modifications to the car. It cost a
fraction of what a Volvo hitch costs.

    Try http://www.uhaul.com

They have one for my BMW 330i. I don't plan on trailering. I just want to use
a bike rack so the little women doesn't need the "truck" for her bike trips.

I had UHaul install a hitch on my car (a Honda) and thought
the price & performance have been fine.

The one fitted to my 940 estate didn't fit correctly and the installer had
'modified' the exhaust so that it hit the suspension on fullish compression.
I think it was for a 740, didn't seem to be a Volvo unit so I got rid of it
since it was not much use to me anyway.

U-Haul gave me an estimate of $319 for installed hitch and wiring
    harness, which isn't too bad.

However, my thought is that there must be old hitches out there on
cars no longer being used as tow vehicles and I might get one cheap.
    I'll try calling junkyards next.

    Thanks though

Found this on ebay for $75, it fits 940s, I think it will fit your 740,
    maybe someone can verify this.
