New 91 240 owner with ?'s

Hello,
I just got a 1991 240 sedan with 92k miles. I drove it the 130 miles home
and it never shifted into 4th (OD) and I have found the Kickdown cable was
froze in the pulled out position. The car shifted at what I would call higher
RPM's and shifted hard.
I have freed up the kickdown cable but have not road tested yet. would
the kickdown being froze up like that cause the hard shifting and no 4th
gear????? I think it would have made the transmission think it needed
to down shift all the time.
Any thoughts?

I have freed up the frozen kickdown cable and taken it for a test drive.
WOW,,was like a new car.... Transmission shifted smooth and at lower RPMs
, it shifted into 4th at about 45-50mph, and the button on the shifter works, shifted
down to 3rd.
SO, THE ANSWER IS,,, IF YOU EVER HAVE A KICKDOWN CABLE FROZE
UP IN THE PULLED OUT POSITION,,, IT WILL MAKE THE TRANSMISSION
SHIFT HARD AND AT HIGHER RPMS AND WILL NOT LET IT GO INTO 4TH.
Now for the clean-up of the car,, a couple new tires, change the timing belt,
and a couple small things and ENJOY !!!!!!!!!
Just thought everyone might want to know the outcome.
