volvo 940 GL 1991 gearbox problem

Sometimes my gearstick of my volvo 940GL is completely locked-up. I am
looking for the reason.
It is an ordinary gearbox No electronics involved.
Does somebody recognize this problem and how to solve it

Do you leave the gear lever in park then put the hand brake on as many do
..It jams up the works big time always use the hand brake then the gear into
park .I put my gear lever in to park with my foot on the brake then apply
the hand brake first so its not resting hard on the gear teeth .
