2007 C30: Black box under seat - what is it ?

G'day,
Got an 07 C30 T5 - under the passenger seat (not electric) there is a small
black plastic box, about 3" x 3" mounted on a bracket. Out of the way. Has a
small wiring harness going into it.

I understand that the C30 has a lot in common with the S40 - so any of you
S40 drivers have a clue what it might be? There is nothing wrong - just
curious.

TIA

Some of the older Volvos located the airbag controller there, not sure about
the C30 though.

Speaking of black boxes... apparently all new cars are equipped with
a "black box" that spies on you. In case of an accident, it is
supposed to provide details on your speed, braking, etc. . Anyone
knows where that box is. Could be related to your ABS module???

Regarding olf Volvos, I thought th box under the driver seat was a
secondary power source for the air bag. My '93 240 doesn't have one.
I disconnected the battery and then unplug the air bag in the
steering. Btw, air bags are/were supposed to be changed after 10
years. That's what it says on the sticker on the side of the door of
my 93 240. Of course, with Ford, they magically became good for 18
years (or something like that?).

The original 10 year rating turned out to be conservative. I've heard of
very early (1970s) airbags being tested and found to still function
perfectly. I would be much more concerned with a control box failure than
the airbag itself, and more worried about it going off unintended than not
going off when it should.
