problem changing tire on xc70

I was attempting to install winter wheels on my 2004 xc70. I had not
previously changed a tire on this vehicle and was very impressed by
the quality of the jack and the jack points on the underside of the
vehicle. However, after raising the rear drivers side wheel and
completely removing the five wheel bolts, I was unable to remove the
wheel from the car. I was reluctant to apply a whole lot of force
while the car was up on the jack and eventually gave up with mission
not accomplished. Am I overlooking something? Any suggestions?

Loosen the bolts SLIGHTLY before you put the car on the jack -

Did that. As I said in the original message, my problem is that I
cannot remove the wheel AFTER raising the car and removing all five
wheel bolts.

The wheel gets stuck to the hub due to a reaction from the different
materials used you will have to get something heavy ( A Good size Hammer) &
hit the tire this will release the wheel from the hub

I've never tried the following method but it seems reasonable and may
help you:

1. While the wheel is off the ground tighten the nuts but not fully.
2. Lower the car. The impact of the ground on the wheel may break the
coupling between the wheel and the hub allowing the wheel to be
removed.

I had this problem on my Alfa Romeo - in the end after having removed the
wheel bolts, lowered the car to the ground and having physically shook the
car from side to side, the wheel stayed firmly attached to the hub!

I had to use a screwdriver as a chisel through one of the 'holes' in the
alloy wheel between the wheel and hub - beating the living daylights out of
it with a large hammer. After about 5 minutes of hammering and one very
'well used' screwdriver later, the wheel came off!

Needless to say, I gave the mating face of the wheel a light smear of grease
before bolting it back on, also checking the other wheels on the same day!

Nice to know it isn't just Alfas that this happens to!

LOOSEN THE NUTS EVER SO LITTLE SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE THE TREADS AND ROLL THE
CAR BACK AND FORTH TILL THE WHEEL LOOSENS THEN JACK IT UP AND REMOVE WHEEL
,REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN THE WHEEL GENTLY THEN TIGHTEN EACH NUT ACROOS FOR THE
LAST ONE CRISS CROSS SO AS TO EVENLY SPREAD THE LOAD ON THE NUTS .
