C70 - Convertible Top button rings when top up/down

Just got a '99 C70 convertible... and sometimes when I put the top up or
down, the mechanism goes through all the motions, and the top is obviously
all the way up or down, but the button still flashes and the tone dings.
Very annoying! What might be causing this?
