I own a 2001 S60 of which I am more than happy.

I think of buying a new XC70 if & when the prices will go down in
Europe, in view of a possible new model coming in this fall.
I'd appreciate comments on the current XC70 from owners.

The XC70/V70 is a great car and does much better in the Insurance
Institutes safety ratings based on claims record of their customers.
The XC90 is the best and very highly rated, the XC70 is next and highly
rated, and the S80 and S60 are just average.

My 2004 xc70 turns 3 next month & it sontinues to be an EXCELLENT &
versitile vehicle. Performance is great as is comfort with massive
storage capabilities. In 3 yrs. had 1 problem - the steering wheel
leather blistered - so Volvo replaced it.

We have a 2001 XC70 which is great, no problems except a loose wire.
Mine came with Pirelli Scorpion tires which are great. My previous
experience with Pirelli was a good tire that didn't last long. The
Scorpions are a great tire that lasts fairly well, 35 to 40 kmiles.

I didn't get leather, sun-roof, or high pressure turbo, so I don't have
any of those problems. The S80 has a V8 so they will probably offer one
in the XC70. They share the same platform. Strangely the XC70 has a
much better record in insurance industry claims for damage and injuries
than the S80.

2001 XC70 experience:

new transmission at 95,000 miles
replace rear wheel bushings at 95,000 miles
new front engine seals at 90,000 miles
Pirelli tires last only 15,000 miles

expensive but excellent car

I agree completely. We have a 1998 V70XC (almost the same
mechanically) and it has been an excellent car...when it wasn't in the
repair shop. Our last bill was about $900: that's when we decided to
sell it. It isn't official yet, but CarMax here in Maryland offered us
$9500, which isn't too bad for a repair-prone wagon with 137,000
miles, so I guess it holds its value pretty well. But for vacations
and stuff, nothing can beat it
