Someone can tell what is good and what is bad about to buy a Volvo S80 T6
1999-2001 ?
I may buy such a car and I won´t buy a bad car.
Too expensive to make a mistake :-)

Some of the early Volvo S80 cars had some problems, but those
problems appeared 7 to 9 years ago and were fixed. For the car to be
on the road now those problems would have been fixed by prior owners.
My suggestion would be to review the records for the car to determine
that all maintenance has been done as scheduled. Also, have a good
Volvo mechanic perform an inspection of the car to determine if any
repairs have to be performed.

I have a 2001 S80 T6, 101,000 + miles. Very nice to drive, comfortable.
Bought second hand from Volvo dealer who "certified" it (extended warranty).
Transmission began to slip at about 60,000 miles. My wife is the main
driver of the car and has never driven it hard. Warranty covered all but
$200 of the $3,000.00 bill. That has been the only disappointment.

I just had the timing belt changed (due at 105,000 miles) ran about $800.00
at the dealer.

So far I am happy with it.

I fully agree with your statement.

You just missed one really importent aspect and that is the GearTronic.

Please chek if the gearbox has been replaced. The first generation of these
gearboxes where very poor in quality.

Volvo improved it but fo some owners, thay had to pay a helle of a lot of
money for a replacement.

I did (Denmark) and payed arround 3.000£

Best regards
Bjørn J. Volvo T6 1999.

i took a risk and purchased a high miles (135,000) 2000 s80 t-6
aprox 3 years ago...paid $7,500...sticker was still in the glove box
for $42,000...all options....anyway, i am in boulder and this car was
in
chicago...the diatance posed a bit of a problem, but...i contacted my
local volvo guy and had him recomend a chicago volvo shop, where i had
the owner tak the car for a tune up and bumber to bumber check...i
also
did the car fax and title search...everything worked and looked
good..i
flew out there and drove it straight back to boulder...no problems...i
have
done a few minor items since then, i now have 170,000 on the
clock..she
drives straight & true, no rattles, everything works, i am in the
middle of
having the ABS sensor looked at and repaired, as it is sending off
false
warning signals...but, other than that..it is a nice, mid sized,
famile
sedan...4 doors, room for mom and the kids...i added front and rear
IPD bars, chipped the motor, up graded the air filter, and that is
about
all it needed...i am happy so far...thinkin' bout the new s80's but
the
price is a bit steep, considering the one i have seems fine..we will
see...

good luck !! just have it checked out at a dealer or good shop,
check the
car fax report and go over the maint records....

ps: oh yea, the dealer did do a fix or upgrads on the big recall issue
w/the
throttle module a year ago or so...no charge...

Actually we've owned a 2001 S80 since new. There were a couple of
things to get fixed, but I have yet to own a new car that didn't have
a problem or two show up under warranty. It's still going strong and
one of the nicest highway cars I've ever owned.

I fully agree and thank God for BSR AB and german roads.

The car is very nice over 250 Km/h.

Mine has now driven around 300.000 km.

It must still be new as Volvo´s last in average 21,2 years.
