Are early S80's (e.g. 2000) know to have higher than usual rates of tranny
failure? I have a 2000 with 97k - had no problems, but I believe my dealer
is trying to scare me into a trade.

I had a 2000 w/no problems...I had it serviced normally
bought @ 130k miles...sold @ 195k miles...no problems...
i think some are good, some are bad.....i wouldn't trust a dealer
for anything...see your local independent mechanic...check w/your
local
volvo club....

We've got a 2000 S80 with about the same mileage. Early on an
electronic transmission module had to be replaced, but after that the
transmission has shifted perfectly. I would say that the repair rate
on my car car has been about average for a car that is 9 years old.
Things break on cars. That's why all car dealers have repair and
parts departments.

If your car has had no significant problems, then by all means hang on
to it. The cost of replacing rather than repairing a car is almost
always higher. Your dealer is one among many many others who are
starving for business and will do anything to create a sale. Even
stretch the truth. Dealers are hurting seriously and many have closed
up. The banks and finance companies carrying car dealer inventories
are stretching and suspending payments on floor plan financing on he
wholesale side. And they are dropping the minimum credit score needed
to get a loan. (Isn't that the kind of nonsense that got us into
trouble to begin with?)
