I filled my fuel tank yesterday. The fuel level was low enough that the
trip display had switched to "xxx miles to empty".
After filling I went to change the display back to mpg and reset the
display. The display wouldn't change when turning the dial.
Pushing the "Read Message" button switches the display to "No vehicle
messages" (there are no alerts) and pushing again back to the "x miles…"
display. Holding reset does nothing nor does turning the car off.
The number display though does appear accurate; it changes, going down
as expected. All other dash/electronics work as expected including
changing/resetting the trip odomoeter.
I'd be surprised if the rotary switch was out especially considering the
read messages button still works. It seems like a robust piece of
switchgear and really doesn't get used that much.
Since the displayed value is accurate that's probably the most likely
cause though.
I wonder though if there's a way to reboot of reset the trip computer.
Do any of the computers on the car draw power when the car is off? I've
never I owned a car this high tech.
I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. It should be a warranty item.
