1999 Volvo S80 Tansmission

Just got a 1999 S80 2.9 from a wrecking yard. The engine sounds great and runs strong. On the other hand the tranny does got go forward but goes well in reverse. If i put it in 1 i can feel the tranny wanting to go forward but it just won't. Any ideas of what could be the problem?
