Have not been here for a while.. but just turned 93K miles on my car.. only
very minor problems thus far. I continue to change my oil using Mobile 1, as
I have from day 1 - no plug for Mobile 1, but it's working well for me - 1st
car I have used it in.. now put it in my other cars too. Car running very
well. Have had the transmission flushed and gas filter replaced in the last
10K miles. Seats holding up well. I have changed the plugs twice - on the
3rd set. No indication to change them, just did it around 35K miles and 70K
miles. Have not changed any belts yet... but suppose this is due soon.

I am aware that many have had problems with the 1999 and 2000 S80 T6, but
mine is doing well.. knock on wood.

How did you change spark plugs? Do you need to unscrew 7 bolts on the
plastic covers? One seems a timing belt cover? How did you take out the
timing belt cover? I bought a used 99 S80 non-turbo several days ago. I
got all kinds of messages now like ABS, STC, Power steering, Emission
service. I feel really unlucky this time. Thanks in advance.

Yes on the bolts, since mine is Turbo, I also had to remove the turbo tubes,
but all is easy to do. There is a timing belt cover, left side - but it
comes off easy. Once this cover is removed, there is a bolt per plug you
will remove and pull off the wires. This is also easy. It's not a hard job,
but will take a 2-3 hours the 1st time you do it. I can do now in an hour.

I did not put a new timing belt on.. but I realize I will need to / want to
do this soon. I have not looked into the dealer doing this, and not sure I
would due to labor rates.. I'd check out an independent shop first and
compare prices with the dealer.

is the s80 an "interference" motor?

One where the pistons will hit the valves if the timing is wrong /
absent. It makes a big difference to the cost of fixing a broken
timing belt / chain!

I think most engines are nowadays. My Peugeot certainly was.... :-(

Yes, you don't get 268 hp out of 2800 cc's without using an interference
design. What I don't understand is how they make that motor put out so much
torque down low. It drives like a big V-8 but it is smoother because it's an
in-line 6. Anyway, the timing belt should be changed every 105,000 miles on
a S80.
