Volvo S80 Drink Holder Problem

2001 Volvo S80 has two drink holders between the front seats - one that pops
open (nearest the shifter), the other is covered (nearest the rear seat).

The covered one is closed and we cannot get it open all of a sudden. Does
anyone know how to fix this? How to remove the parts that will give us
access to fixing the closing mechanism?
