xc90 v8 transmission question

i am going to buy a used 2005-06 xc90 and i was told the V8 had transmission issues that were resolved eventually. I was told there is a VIN number cutoff that distinguishes the good from the bad, or basically when the redesign occurred. Does anyone know more about this and especially, what the VIN cuttoff is for redesign?
