1993 240 Wagon antenna and fuse issues

Couple of questions if anyone would care to reply. I have a 1993 240 wagon with 188K...it's pretty sweet, I must say:

1. My manual antenna snapped off and I'm wondering if I need to buy the mast only, or the complete antenna assembly kit. The masts that I see out there look quite a bit different than the one I had (silver with a little ball on the mounting end), and I'd like to avoid the extra expenditure. Any suggestions?

2. To add insult to injury, the fuse that carries the radio, rear wiper, & cig lighter just started blowing. Oddly enough, the power side mirrors (also on that fuse) still work. Clues for the clueless?
Thank you!

Hi "rivolvo",

Can't help you with point 1, but re point 2 :
Our '93 240 wagon power mirrors work when that fuse (#1) is removed. Also,
the fuse box cover info does not include power mirrors on fuse #1.
Strangely that info doesn't show our power mirrors on any fuse....... and
to further "deepen the plot", the Owner's Manual shows power mirrors ON fuse
#1........ but recommends that the fuse box cover info has priority.

Further to point 2, when does the fuse blow? when you operate one of the
protected items? Which one?

Good Luck.

I bet the power mirrors are on a different fuse, pull fuses until they stop
working, you'll have your answer.

When does the fuse blow for the lighter and wiper and such? You can turn off
the wiper to eliminate that as the cause, could be a short in the lighter
socket or wiring.

Yes you can change just the mast
It sounds like one of the tailgate harnesses are broken where they pass
through the hinge open tailgate inspect the hinge openings this is where the
harnesses run through

Have to chime in with my anecdotal "Mr. Stupid" advice: visually
inspect the cigarette lighter socket with a good light.

My cig. lighter fuse was blowing all the time until I figured out that
somehow a penny had fallen into the socket, possible picked up by the
lighter which, long unused, had taken to rolling around on the floor
with the loose change while I charged my phone. Or it could have been
a niece playing in the parked car on the driveway.

I would replace the fuse, turn the key and it would blow right away.
Went through a half dozen fuses trying to figure it out. It was just
lucky that I was parked in a way that light shone right into the
socket and I saw the penny. By that time I had already spent about 40
minutes checking other things.

Good luck.

Andy-Interesting on the fuse #1 confusion. The fuse just blows when I start the car up, not specific to the use of any of the items on that circuit. Thanks for your feedback.

Blurp (family name?):
Will do...a very real possibility as I have a 4-yr old and my car-keeping has really slipped as of late. I appreciate your feedback.

Thank you. The mast is only $20, so it's definitely worth a crack! Then if I can get the radio working, I'll be able to rock again sufficiently.

I snapped off my antenna on my 1991 240 wagon, and I replaced it with a
Harada PM98H antenna for a 1992 Honda Civic. It was a surprisingly clean
fit, and the antenna can be lowered into the window post for car washes and
low clearances and such. It is about 13 dollars at any of the major
autoparts chains.

I hope this helps.

Peace,

David
