I'm having trouble with the climate control system on this car.
Everything is working except for the fact that the dampers won't
change position. This is really annoying when the defroster is need,
but the system only outputs through the dash vents. When the car is
started, both the recirculate and a/c led's flash simultaneously. I
can hear the damper motors (??) trying to change the position of the
vents, but it's not doing anything. The dealer wants about $100 to
diagnose (read the error code) the problem. Does anyone have any
suggestions other than the dealer route (I'm told that climate control
system has its own set of codes and requires their scanner)?

Unfortunately, that's what you need to do. However, decent Volvo
specialist aftermarket places will have the scan tool necessary to read
    the codes.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)
