240 cold idle (too slow)??

  1. My 1986 240 wagon (non T) appears to idle too slow when the engine is cold
(even in the summer). If you don't hold a little pressure on the accelerator it
dies when you come to a stop. After it warms up it idles OK. I have tried
Chevron Techron fuel injector additive but no success.

  2. I have also replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and air filter, again no
    change

Try adjusting the idle control (largish wheel under the manifold near throttle
    plate).

    Cheers, Peter.

  4. The throttle body and idle air control valve need to be periodically removed,
cleaned and replaced. This only costs about $125 at a dealer, and it's a dirty job,

so I suggest you let them do it.

  5. I don't understand why it runs (idles) better when it warms up. Warm it doesn't
stall at stops or slowing for a stop, cold it does.
