There's a little panel on the right hand side of my 1987 240 GL Estate
dashboard (UK) with the headlight/dip/sidelight rotary switch, the dashboard
light dimmer rotary control and the fog light switch. How do i get in to
this to fix an inoperative fog light switch? It's not shown in the haynes
manual and i've tried pulling the rotary switches off to facilitate removel
with no luck. It seems loose already but how does it come off?

Any one been there?

With the knobs off there are only plastic hooks holding it on. Try
sticking a dull knife blade into the crack between the cluster and that
panel and prying gently, no more that 10-20 degrees from perpendicular.
When you get to the right spot, it will pop free.

NOTE: new address!!
Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)

Ahaa! The knobs off... do they just pull off then? I have been gingerly
tugging but didn't want to break anything.

I'll have a stab tomorrow. It's just the damn fog lamp switch between me and
an MOT!

"Why of course the people don't want war. But after all, it is the
leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a
simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or
a fascist dictatorship, Voice or no voice, the people can always be
brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to
do is to tell them that they are being attacked, and denounce the
pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

Correct, the knobs just pull off.

Yep, just give them a good tug and they should come off. That switch is for
the rear fog lamps.
