My 740 just failed to go from point A to point B for the first time ever.

Fuel pump died. Turns out, the pump for this model is $500. Who the
hell ever heard of a $500 fuel pump??? I don't think I'm being fleeced
-- my shop happens to be the Revolvstore in Tucson, nobody has a better rep.

There didn't seem to be any alternatives. I'm in a bad mood today.

    LOL

The pump does NOT cost $500!

    It costs $105 at fcpgroton.com

Of course, you may have to pay $395 to some schmuck to R&R if you don't
know how to do it yourself.

FWIW, it is a pretty easy job to DIY.

  3. wow...$500 fuel pump. even if that includes labor, you are getting
    hosed. 1/2 hour job, tops.

    definitely order from fcpgroton,
    http://fcpgroton.com/fuel700900/volvo740b230f.htm is the page your
looking for. you'll be up and running tomorrow afternoon with

$700 total, including the local tow.

Revolvstore in Tucson. Has a great reputation and if I'm sullying it
with this report, it's their fault not mine.

    Supposedly, that's not right for my car, a non-US '91 740.

  6. If your car uses Regina system it has one pump only which is an uprated
in-tank pump. This pump is common to ALL Regina equipped 700s

    All the best, Peter.

    3507492 fuel pump assembly==Volvo list $483.66
    3507496 fuel pump alone==Volvo list $136.42
Usual labor 2.0 at you local region's flat rate for the sender and pump
assembly, half hour more for the pump by itself. Since the silver
plating on the sender tends to react with the sulfur in gasoline to form
a nonconductive surface corrosion on the fuel level sender resistor
surface, most shops will replace the unit as an assembly to assure
proper fuel gauge operation after completing the job.

Well, good to know. Others had be believing I'd been fleeced totally.

Turned around in about 24 hours, that's worth a lot to me.

I didn't find myself working on a gas tank on a 98 degree (F) day,
    that's worth even more.

    Thanks!

  9. 3507495 sender assem w regina pump $450
    1389562 fuel filter $15.99

    Labor $150
    Towing $45

shop insists they will not try to rebuild these, too much labor and
they end up failing 100% anyway.

    Thanks!
