94 940 AC Compressor removal

Discussion in 'Volvo 940' started by jon robinson via CarKB.com, May 16, 2005.

  1. I actually need to replace the alternator belt, but need to remove the ac
compressor belt to do so. Can anyone who has done this please offer
assistance on loosening tension on the compressor?

There are 2 nuts holding the compressor on top both can be loosened with
a 13mm socket after these are loose use a 10mm socket & slacken the
adjuster screw then pull up on AC belt compressor should move now

The official count is 343, but there was also a volunteer who lost his life

There's a bracket at the front and another at the rear, each with a nut
locking it. Once you loosen those up there's a 10mm bolt that adjusts the
tension, loosen it up to release the tension.

When you go to put it back together, tighten the 10mm bolt to tension the
belt, then tighten the two locking nuts and then back off the 10mm bolt a
    few turns.
