Advice: UK Reg R 1998 V70 2.5 10v - Wheel Upgrade

Discussion in 'Volvo V70' started by Jason Russell, Apr 30, 2009.

  1. Hi

Quick question regarding changing the wheels on my 1998 V70.

Currently fitted are the T5 16" alloys and have had no issues with
    fitting/tyre wear etc.

I have been offered a set of the 17" T5R alloys (black finish) - My question
is will these fit without problems?

I need two new tyres and the difference between the 16" and 17" rubber is
    only a few quid.

I am considering either fitting Conti Sport Contact3 or Bridgestone Potenza
RE050A in 205/45 R17 88W size - any views on which is the best? I've always
found conti give a good combo of dry/wet grip and life., but am open to
    suggestion.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Oh, additional info: I have upgraded the brakes to EBC Turbo Groove discs
and Green stuff pads all round, but these are regular size (i.e. the
standard 15" wheels still fit) - What brake upgrade options do I have? I
understand that Volvo at one point offered an AP Racing kit, but understand
    this is very pricy!

I would imagine your car has the T5 spec 302mm front discs as it has the 16"
perfo's. A 15" rim will only fit if it has the 280mm discs.

So the 17"'s will fit no probs.

Yes, Volvo did offer an AP racing set up as a dealer fit option only on the
70 series, but they are both *very* rare, and also *very* (£1500) expensive.

    Hope this helps.
