I forgot to include another problem in the list I posted a little while ago
for my '88 240 wagon with auto transmission. With a warm engine the car
often stalls out with little or no gas applied at very low speed such as
pulling in or out of a parking space. Should I try to adjust the idle speed
which seems a little low, replace the fuel filter, other?

Pull the hose on front of the Idle Air Motor and spray silicone in it. If
that doesn't work, pull the intake hose from the throttle body and clean it
with carb clean. Could be the TPS switch needs adjusting. The B230 has a
very narrow fuel window and requires routine maintaince to keep it
functioning properly. It is something you can learn to do and only takes a
few minutes. Do it every 5000 miles.

I have a '88 240 wagon w/automatic that I just bought recently. I had a
somewhat similar problem with the car almost stalling whenever taking off
from a stop and sometimes during turns. I ended up replacing plugs, plug
wires, coil, air filter, cap and rotor. Checked fuel pump relay and primary
fuel pump, both were ok. Next, replaced the fuel filter(next to primary
pump), and the car ran alittle better, so I was on the right track. Turned
out to be the in-tank pump. The pump was apparently struggling after running
awhile and the bad filter only made things worse. My car runs fine now. Give
the filter a try, maybe that will be enough in your case. BTW, this is my
second 240 wagon, easy to work on and very long lasting when maintained
properly, great car!
