My 91 740 won't shift into 4th at any speed. Arrow comes on & off when you
push the gearshift button, but no shift. Any ideas where to start to diagnose
    this?? Billy

Well the first thing to check is the wire to the solenoid on the
transmission, then see if it's getting power, could also be the relay,
though usually when that happens the arrow stays on. Feel free to email me
directly if you need more help.

Had the same symptom as yours on my 760. In my case it was the
connection to the transmission OD relay. This wire comes from inside
the car (in the area of the gear stick) down to the underside of the
car and then to the relay. There are other possibilities but this is
    the probably simplest to check.

It's probably either the solenoid or lack of oil.

Or it could be the wire going to said solenoid. On my 240 the wire was
fairly exposed, on the side of the transmission housing, and the wire
broke. I spliced it, but it's hard to get at without a nice lift.
