My A/C compressor is making a horrible noise. I want to keep driving
the car but don't care about A/C. Is there a way to get the power
steering pump to run directly from the main pulley ? I have seen
discussions on the topic here, but no details from anyone who has
actually done this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sure, just go to a junkyard and get a bracket from a car that came without
AC, in pre-'86 DL cars this was reasonably common so it shouldn't be too
hard.

I believe IPD still sells an A/C bypass kit for early 240s.

Thanks James - power steering bracket ?

Yeah sorry, I should have been more specific.

As someone else mentioned, IPD does sell a little pully adapter to do this,
but I prefer to change the bracket, makes for a more professional result.

Thanks for the info ... looks like an interesting kit and will solve
my problem ... but will check the local junk yard first. Thanks
again.
