desperately need help with my sons 89 Volvo 740 GLE

    About a month ago my son's 89 volvo 740 gle wouldn't start.i checked for fuel to the motor and no fuel was presen.relays and fuses were good.replaced intank fuel pump and fuel filter.started and ran for about a week then broke down.so i replaced the other inline fuel pump and cleaned the fuel injectors.started and ran real good,2 days later,broke down again.if i use starting fluid it'll start.i can hear the inline fuel pump working and i take off gas cap and i can hear that fuel pump working also.so this is where im stuck.i seriously need some assistance.
