I thought I would clear the lint out of the sensor grill on the front
panel of my climate control module. Turns out there is a thermistor in
behind the grill that is a bit delicate, and all I was left with are the
two copper wires. Anyone know what the specs are on the thermistor so I
can order a replacement?

Thanks

No, I hope someone out there does. I broke the thermistor on my sensor
while trying to disassemble it. It cost $100 - 150 to replace this
unit for my 1998 V70. It would be cheaper to unsolder the thermistor
and replace it with an exact copy. The other choice is to find one in
the salvage yards.

If your thermistor is not broken, the other problem maybe that the
micro fan behind the thermistor is stalled with lint or burned out.
Regardless, a cleaning or replacement is in order.

At this point I would gladly pay $100. Mine is a bit different, the
thermistor is an integral part of the main module, not part of the fan.
Dealer wants $1300! I am checking junk yards.

$1300 for a thermistor?? Sheesh, if only you could get access to one to
measure the impedance, do that at a few different temperatures and you
can plot out a reasonable approximation of the curve and select a
similar replacement.

I ordered my ECC from Jay Owens at www.vandsautodismantlers.com near
Sacramento, CA. It cost me $58 with S&H and tax. I received it in 2
days. I had to blow off the dust and lint but it worked just fine. Now
I have some heat in the car during this global cooling.

I wanted to try my local junkyard in Gardena, www.thomasvolvo.com, but
I got too busy. It's worth a call.

Good Luck!

BTW, please checked ebay,http://shop.ebay.com/items/
_W0QQ_nkwZxc70Q20climateQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZ.

If your thermistor is integrated into the control panel, you can find
the control panel for $50.

Good luck.

Thanks to ih8change & to James. I ordered an ECC from eBay & it just
arrived. Instead of installing the replacement, I just cannibalized it
for the thermistor. Works a charm.

For the record, the thermistor is (approximately) 25k outside today
where the air is about 3C, 12k inside at around 20C, and 7k if I breath
on it real hard. Something like the GB1074U-3-0 from Spectrum Sensors &
Controls looks about right http://www.specsensors.com/rlg.asp

Glad to hear you got it working.

I would think DigiKey likely has something suitable, though they tend to
have a mind boggling selection of things like that, making finding the
one you want a trick.

Thanks! For a crappy week, you've been a bright spot. I appreciate
the
calibration data you've given. My double E colleague at work suggested
I make measurements but it's hard to do with the thermistor split at
the middle. I'll check out digi-key....
