    Two problems with a 1969 Volvo 144.

    1) Automatic Gear Selector Display linkage has broken. Is the only
    choice to take
apart the dashboard to get at it?

    2) Automatic Gear Shifter handle has a broken retainer on the inside of
    the gear
box. It disintegrated, but was originally some kind of black
    plastic hemisphere
holding the shift lever inside the steering column housing. Can it
    be replaced, and
how does it attach to the inside of the housing. Perhaps it is
    easier to find the
entire gear shift mechanism from the selector handle to the
    steering wheel post
    and replace it.
