Can you please tell me how to replace the front passenger seat belt of a 94
Volvo model 940? I am able to find the replacement belt. But do not know how
to remove and re-install it. Your advise is much appreciated. Jerry

well...i can tell you you will be removing the plastic vertical
piece...that runs up the pillar, between the front and rear seats...i
did this to mess around w/lubercating the re-winding
thing-a-bob.......once you remove the plastic cover...a lot more of
the belt will be exposed...i am not what the next steps would be...do
you have a shop manual?

I replaced the drivers side belt on my Green 94 940 because I simply wore it
out. The replacement I obtained had had the tensioner fired. I had to use my
old tensioner so I would have a useable tensioner and no SRS alarm light. The
attached pics may help you. Note you do not have to remove the latch device
shown in pic ---064. You just reach in through the hole, push in the black
ring and then lift the front of the seat tray.

How do you remove the plastic vertical piece? Jerry

1' Lift out the two circular cover from the bottom edge.
2. Remove the T25 screws
3. Lift out the oval covers on the door sill pieces-- two in the front
one in the rear.
4. Remove the Torx screws
5. Remove the screw at the rear of the lower seat cushion on the seat
frame.
6. Slide the metal clip on the inside edge of this piece forward to
expose the slot in the plastic and work the webbing through the slot so
that it is free of the cover.
6. Lifting from the rear, rotate the cover toward the front of the car,
and out of your way.
7. The seat side reel is now exposed.
8. Starting at the top of the B pillar trim, work your finger tips
between the plastic and the weatherstrip and pull inwards, the plastic
surround on the belt opening will come loose at this point and can be set
aside. Continue to pull the trim panel away from the B pillar, lifting up
at the very bottom to free the attachment hooks from the door sill pieces
and work the belt free.
9. Remove the front door sill section.
10. Remove the lower anchor bolt on the pillar side reel.
11. Disconnect the orange plug for the active seat beat if equipped.
Remove the charge tube locating screw and clamp.
12. Remove the upper pivot bolt.
13. Remove the bolt holding the seat reel in place.

N.B. When installing the new belt it must be in an attitude very similar
to it's installed position in order to release the inertial lock on the
seat reel. It's a good idea to find this position and extend the belt
fully and clamp it in the extended position with a clothespin clamp prior
to attempting installation.

14. Once the seat reel is attached, clip the free end of the belt into
the console side belt latch. Attach the upper pivot and bolt, then use
the free length to let the B pillar reel hang close to installed
position. Install the lower B pillar bolt. (Also attach the clamp and
screw for the explosive charge on active belt if equipped. Reconnect the
orange SRS plug.)

15. At this point release the belt from the latch and check that the
operation is smooth and that both reels work correctly.

16. Refit the trim.

You don't have to fiddle with the front mount at all. The piece will
rotate to vertical and be completely out of the way.

Thank you very much, Bob.
Do you think I should make my own Torx screwdriver tool?
Can you tell me if I can find used or salvage parts for this Volvo parts
online or in Northern California? Thank you, Jerry

If the tensioner fired, would it be safe to assume that the belt had been
involved in an accident?

If yes, I'd be hesitant to use the belt... as they do stretch when
involved in an accident.
