do K&N air filters make a difference?

does having it chipped improve the performance enough to justify cost?

any other suggestions? - sensible please gents :)

No not really, any air filter upgrade will provide a negligable change in
performance of an otherwise stock engine. Is this car a turbo?

You *might* get some improvement then, depending on the efficiency of the
stock filter. Volvos have historically had massive filters that can flow a
lot of air, I've never seen under the hood of a V40 though.
