Oil filter change

  1. Hello,

I'm driving up to the country (800km total distance) tomorrow. My old Volvo
240 is due for a service in the next 1,000km. I thought of changing the oil
    for the car for the drive and next week send it in for a service;
unfortunately, I can't change the oil filter because I have a terrible back
injury and I can't reach in and take the filter out. Its hard enough
reaching in to unscrew the oil plug.

I'm just wondering whether the oil change is worth it.

    Thank you,

    Robert

If the service isn't due for 1000 km, and you're only putting 800 on it,
then just get everything done at once. Long trips are the easiest on
    the oil anyway.

  3. Opps, noone replied so I changed the oil anyway. Couldn't reach in to change
    the oil filter though.

Hopefully, the new oil will act as a engine flush. Or will it?

    Cheers!

Well, new oil won't hurt. And chances are, the filter is still
serviceable, so you'll be ok until the next change. However, if you're
getting a service done when you return, you may as well have the oil and
filter changed at the same time.

  5. Thanks for the advice. I just did he trip - a total of 800km using roughly
60 litres of petrol. The old Volvo 240 handled it fantastically. Wehn I get
the car serviced I will of course get them to change the oil and the filter
+ a few ohter things as well. Its gone pass 200,001km.
