Programming used remote

I've bought used remote for my C70 1999. The remote has exact serial number
that I need.
I've went to my dealer and he said that he won't program it, because I need
a brand new remote, that has never been programmed. From used one it's not
possible to get the PIN code or something. How do I get one?

What can I do now?
New one costs fortune and programming costs the same.

You do not programme with the fob (remote). You align the fob to the car
using the prescribed method. Ensuring that the alarm is off the ignition is
turned on & off five times leaving it on after the fifth. Then press the
button on the fob and then turn the ignition off. The fob should now operate
both alarm and central locking as normal. Programming of the alarm is done
as described in the manual for the alarm system (VolvoGuard).

All the best, Peter.

1999 needed a pin code which is entered to program the remote as for not
being able to program a used remote unless the remote is faulty it will
be able to be programed for the car

Is for the New York City Firemen who lost their lives on September 11,2001.
The official count is 343, but there was also a volunteer who lost his life
aiding in the initial rescue efforts. And I will never forget them as
long as I live,
nor should any American.

Thanks for the elucidation old pal. I thought there might be some difference
after I'd sent the message.

But how can I get the pin code if the ebay seller doesn't supply it?
Is there any chance?

You have to have the dealer program the remote for you as the dealer is
the only place that has access to the web site that Volvo has set up
even if I could get you the pin codes you still have to have the remote
programed wish I could be of more help

To clarify: The pin code is for the car, not the remote. This code is
needed along with an electronic tool to program the car to recognize the
new remote.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)

But the dealer says he needs this pin for the pilot and then he could
program the car. He said I should get it with the remote if it's new. He
enters the pin in his computer to recognize right remote I think.

So do I need it or not?

If so, then how can I get it out from it?

Would this also be the case for a 1998 V70? There seem to be a fair
number of remotes for this vehicle on ebay at any given time. I might
just pick up a spare if it's simple to reprogram the car to the remote.

I'm assuming most of the newer cars are reprogramamble using the five
times ignition method, however it's not clear to me if you could get
two used (unmatched) remotes to work with one car. Is that possible?

Thanks,
Joe

Yes, it has the same remote as mine so you have to go to a dealer.

You assume wrong. the newer ones are reprogramable only by the dealer. The
old ones could be reprogramed by ignition method.

I'm confused, which years can use the ignition method? I guess I
assumed (incorrectly) that there weren't many models with remotes prior
to '98. My '91 240 certainly didn't have one.

I've checked by my self In Volvo Vadis program and to my it looks like the
remote # 9184786 (I've found one brand new on ebay) is an old number for
9184784. In Vadis it's written:(9184786)
My dealer says that in ( ) are shown the old numbers, so it should fit to my
car.
Do you think it would work for my car? The 9184786 one.
