When i try to start the car i can hear an ongoing "clicking sound" and the
start engine does not try to start the car.
All the lamps in the front panel turn on and off continuasely and rapidly
until i turn the "ingnition key" off.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

(The battery is ok)

The car is a V70 2.4T - 2000.

You sure that the battery is ok? Well, if yes, then the cable going
to the starter may be shorted. But it sounds like a battery
problem...

Even if the battery is OK you should check the tightness of the connectors on
the battery. Me and a neighbour had the same problem on an MGF. As it was an
automatic we couldn't even push start it.

Cheers, Peter.

Hi Pat;

This sounds like a bad battery
The starting sequence is started by the ignition key, which calls a
very heavy relay on the starter motor that connects the battery to the
starer motor windindings, ( the very thick cable from the battery). As
the several 100 Amps flows from the battery a voltage drop will cause
this relay to release. and start the sequence again. This is probably
what you can here. I talk from experience.

If you have no tools, try jumpng the battery with an extra one from a
neighbours car. Or if you know the battery is old, cut your losses and
buy a new one.

Regards
Ian
