    To all,
My wife took our 2000 S70 in for a brake job which cost $700 for only
the front. The shop replaced the front rotors. The lining were not
worn through and the rotors had never been turned. this seems odd that
the rotors weren't turned and instead replaced which made this very
    expensive. Any thoughts anyone?

For an S70 AWD R, the most expensive partswise Dealer list: Rotors (pr)
$256.00, pads 99.00 Brake grease 13.00, Labor Dealer about 3.0 hours
    ($100.00) takes about 40 minutes. Rotors for a standard S70 11" brakes:
    Rotors (pr) 200.00, pads 74.00. 12" rotors $220.00, pads $74.00.

Independent shop, using Brembo, Zimmermann, or ATE rotors, and OEM,
Textar or TRW pads would probably do the job for around $355 or so, at
least that's what indy shops around here would charge.

    Larry,
Though this is a bit pricey (Volvo service is NOT cheap!), I wouldn't
    ever recommend turning brake rotors. I have a 1994 850 that I
purchased new in March 1994. I last replaced the rotors at about 100k
miles. I just replaced my Ford Expedition rotors at 85k miles.
Despite a fair number of good, computer-controller rotor turning
machines, all too many of them end up making the rotors imbalanced --
then your car would shake with light brake pressure. This vibration
would eventually damage many other front end parts. So, you might have
been able to have gotten another 20 to 40 kmiles on the first set of
rotors, but you'd eventually be replacing them, anyway.
