Probably a common question, but is it possible for me to reset the service
reminder light in my 1997 S70 myself, or do I have to take it to a dealer?

    Thanks

    Hi, J. - - -

The Volvo specialists as ipd, up in Portland sell a nice little tool for
    "only" $178.
It's still a catalog item with them (their cat. # DFT5408).

The wife's 98 V70XC lived on my side of the garage until the S60AWD
arrived. I popped for the tool several years ago and it assuredly works
as advertised. For those into accessing the OBD II system via a laptop
computer, all the existing software packages seem to offer that reset
    capability, as well.

Bottom Line: It's an electronic reset for the 96-98 cars. Thereafter,
they allow you to access the system, but only if you've picked up the
trick entry from this or other Volvo-related site.

Thanks Bob - looks like a trip to the dealer, then!
