  1. well...i guess i have to "eat some crow" in front
    of the whols ng now.....

i just wrote out my deposit check for another (my 2nd) s80...

after driving a number of used volvo models...tweeking my 93 940t
up to almost 300 hp...(i am on my 3rd tranny).....and renting,
test driving, borowing, sitting in the rear to check legroom ... etc
.... on as number of other volvos ... for the $, I couldn't pass up or
    walk away from this deal.

    its a moondust 2000 t5 w/all options (listed for $45k) prem sound, 17"
wheels, safety glass, etc....w 130k miles (high, I know) ... complete
dealer service records ... Clean no dings body paint in xlt condition
    .... for $8,500 ..

overall, if running right...the turbo s80 is a nice sized, and featured
sedan...i will know more of what i am gettin' into in the next week or
so. the 93 940t goes to the kids for a high school car (after some de
    tunning, of course)...

but, it l@@ks like i am back in the s80 club....

    Not a 2000 T5 S80 but a 1999 T5 S70 (same engine?).... and that with 155000
miles.... And still runs like a charm (touch wood). Just ordered a whole
cambelt kit from FCP Groton (yeah and I'm from the UK and it still works out
cheaper than locally!) - belt, ider, tensioner and waterpump to keep her
    sweet...
Never had anything on the engine but oil, filters, belts, plugs and an Air
Mass Meter (and the obligatory throttle control module at 110k).

Strangely I get all my parts from FCP these days as the parts cost less than
half the UK cost (for genuine) and about 2/3 for most non genuine parts.
Never been able to figure that one... parts made in Europe, shipped to US,
shipped back to UK for less than if they were shipped direct to UK? Someone
is ripping us off here big time!

Enjoy your new wheels.... sounds lovely!!!

  6. thats good to hear AB...normal maintaince i have no problems with.
i am having a complete inspection done before delivery....they are a
    sweet,
    confortable ride...when working properly....(and "cared for")...i
    guess...but no
doubt there are lemmons out there...i see the owners voicing their
    issues
more and more these days...my fingers are x'ed....

I knew you would be back!

Sounds like a reasonably good deal although that is a lot of miles on the
suspension/chassis components. I bet the engine is good for a lot more
though. They only came in a 2.8 liter T6 and the 2.9 liter normally
aspirated I-6. The complete dealer service records are nice, especially if
the dealer specializes in Volvo's and has had competent mechanics. I'm
curious what kind of major repairs/replacements the car has needed in it's
first 130,000 miles? Mine has been nearly perfect for the first 70,000/5+
years but that car has almost double the mileage.

One thing many overlook when comparing the S80 to other cars is the extreme
build quality/strength and rigidity of the chassis and body. This helps
roadholding under evasive manuevers and of course occupant safety in the
event of collision. I hope you enjoy your new (previously owned) car! If it
needs new shocks do not make the mistake I did and buy Bilsteins, they are
way too stiff for the S80! Go with the Sachs that were engineered for the
car. They work really well on all types of surfaces.

  9. spanky....yea, your right...after crusin' in my 1993 940t...renting and

driving w/my brother in law, in his s80, sitting in the back for an
    hour
    ride...(confie)...i decided to get either a used v70 or s80, the s80's
were a lot cheaper than the v70's...i ended up w/a deal i couldn't walk
    away from...anyway, its a high miles 2000 t6 w/all upgrades except the
    phone
    and nav system...reviewing the dealer/service records...no major
    repairs
done...just the normal oil/lub/timing belt, etc...the tec folks at IPD
    recomended
the Bilstenis upgrade...did you install and then go to the
    sachs?.....they were
really hard, ea? the IPD tec said they would not be rougher, but
    stiffer and
a better feel...???.....i will look into the sachs..thanx for the
    tip...

Bilstein makes two sets of shocks for the S80, OEM replacement and "Sport".
I went for the OEM replacement as I didn't want a harsh ride. They are WAY
stiffer than the OEM shocks and actually give me less traction on rough
roads or on snow/ice. The ride is MUCH more uncomfortable. The S80 comes
with Sachs shocks which are tuned nicely for the S80. One of the front ones
failed (no damping) but the car still drove reasonably well. I replaced all
four and was looking forward to the upgraded performance but it never
materialized. The Sachs are MUCH less expensive. I think the reason I had
one fail after only 60,000 miles might have to do with some high speed
washboard driving I've done at high temperatures in E. WA. Under more normal
use I think they are good for at least 100,000 miles.

After spending around $800 for the Bilsteins I'm not overly anxious to buy
the Sachs but I don't like the way the car drives currently. I don't know
what I'll do. Just get the Sachs and spend the extra money on good tires and
maybe the IPD anti-sway bar. I think the OEM rubber anti-sway bushings wear
out (get loose) after so many miles.

It's nice to hear of another high mileage S80 T6 with no major repairs
needed. This is more common than Usenet and www forum messages would have
you believe. Does your car have the summer package (window shades and UV
    reflect windscreen)?

    Cheers!

  11. yea, it does have the summer tint, and some sort of security
glass or coating...i am not sure what, but i have the window
sticker and it was extra $$ on there...does your security/burgler
alarm ever just go off...by itself?...

    i think i will l@@k close @ the sach's set up...your right, i would
    rather
take the $ and put it to a nice set of shoes...that and the IPD sway
    bars (my shop
called a few moments ago and said the IPD kit "has arrived via ups, and
    is ready
for install"...and a solid set of bushings should be more than enough
    for the
type of driving i plan on...

then, a IPD chip flash, and a 2.5 or 3.0 exhaust system and i am set
    for the
    year...i think...

where should i shop for the sachs shocks/struts?...which ones usually
    go 1st...the
    front or rear set?

  14. yea, it does have the summer tint, and some sort of security
glass or coating...i am not sure what, but i have the window
sticker and it was extra $500 .. the sticker states "homelink
security pkg"... great system...does your security/burgler
alarm ever just go off...by itself...mine does...i guess thats part of
the extra $500...??? ... anyway, i can sorta of disable it w/a
    special
button on the "button bank"...that turns down the "alert state"
    a notch, or two....

The only time my security alarm has ever gone off on it's own is when I
didn't know enough to disable it for a rough water ferry ride. Other than
that, it has never sounded a single false alarm. It's pretty cool because I
can lock the car and leave the windows all the way down and if anyone sticks
their arm in the window opening, the alarm will sound. but it never goes off
by itself (except on the stormy ferry ride). I hate alarms but this is one
I'm glad I have and now I always remember to disable the motion sensor
before locking the car on the ferry.

  16. yes...sounds like yours is functioning...mine may need to be
calabrated, or re set somehow.....you can test yours by setting, then
leaving the windows down, and sticking your arm inside to trip the
motion sensor? the alarm then trips?...does it "sound" for like 20 sec,
    or 1 min...then go off?...thanx.....

I don't even know how to disable the S80's motion sensor, and too lazy
to look it up. How is it done?

I do know that it has a motion sensor as I tried waiting in the car
one time, and it went off.

There is a button on the dash that has an icon of a sensor radiating
downward. After you remove the key from the ignition you push the button.
Then when you lock the car the motion sensor is disabled until you use the
car again. I don't know how long the alarm sounds for. It's loud enough that
when I have tested it I have always turned it off immediately.

  19. yep...one of the buttons on the "button bank"...just above
the gear selector handle....when pressed, it lights up and a mssg
comes through the mssg window advising you of a "decreased
    state of protection"....
