Volvo 740 fuel question

I have a 1986 volvo 740 GLE wit a 2.3l.....
Next to the fuel filter there is a module of sorts...What is it? The
line from the fuel tank and then a jumper to the filter...Im a domestic
tech and never seen this ......

That would be the main fuel pump.

That's the main fuel pump, there's an in-tank prepump to keep it primed,
then a main high pressure pump mounted under the car on the sled with the
filter.

Thought it might be but not sure.....Used to only one pump....In the
tank,,,,thanks guys can ya tell me what the fuel pressure should be on
these beasts?
