What grade/type oil in 740 with 200k miles?

  1. I did a search here, but unable to find a good answer. It appears as if
I will have to machine my crankshaft to the next level - mechanic says
..010". I'll get new bearings also I assume.

Just curious, do you all normally keep using the original oil weight
from when the car is new, or do you go to a heavier weight or something
    like synthetic with higher miles?

    I have a 1987 non-turbo 740 GLE with the B230F engine and 196,000
    miles.

Assuming you get the whole motor done, you basically have a new motor
with tolerances equivalent to new. Use the same oil as recommended for
    a new car.

FWIW, when I rebuilt the engine in my 244 Turbo, I stuck with 10W-30
(except 5W-30 in the mild winter), and change the filter and oil very
    frequently.

Frequent oil changes is the best bang for your buck.

  5. Can anyone vouch for Auto-Rx? This was recommended by an oil "expert"
    to clean a dirty engine.
