What problems to look for in 1998 S80 T5?

I'm thinking of replacing my 1995 850 GLT non-turbo with a 1998 S80 T5
automatic. What problems should I look for in the T5? The T5 has
144K on it. What standard maintenance should be done at that mileage?

Thanks

Steven...I bought a 2000 t6 w/145k miles on it years ago...(now
with 185k miles...no problems) .... I had a local volvo dealer go
through it and check everything...We made sure the timing belts
were services at the proper times, checked all elecrtrics, etc..

I would watch the ball joints, timming belt and oil change
intervals....

good luck......there are some great deals on the older s80's...and
they are decet sedans...esp for the $$......I am about to unload
my 2000 t6, it stickerd at $44k, I picked it up for $8,900 (e bay) and
amselling for $8,500...I have aprox $2,500 in IPD cutom parts to make
it corner flat and go fast (chipped)....I am setpping up to one of
theV70r's.........

cheers

I agree. My '01 XC70 has gone through ball joints in 105,000 miles
while the '95 850 hasn't in 145,000 miles. The timing belt is critical.
If in doubt, replace.

With that many miles my first concern would be that regular
maintenance had been kept up. The owners manual has a schedule for
regular maintenance that is certainly a starting point. You may want
to tighten up on the oil changes a bit, otherwise it's ok.

one problem w/the t5 is speedin' tickets...as i have
been learning about over the last few months...up
here in colorado....it seems the radar systems are
getting better and better at coming on all of a sudden'
once you are right "on top" of them....it takes my detector
by suprise...and gives me a "direct hit" to the wallet.. ‹(•¿•)›

ouch...

the t5's are still fun to drive....
