Hi from down Under.

Beast starts fine but is sluggish to respond to throttle when taking off
from standing start. Is this fuel pressure?

Also, warms up ok and idles smoothly when in drive. Drop it into nuetral
and it wobbles all over the show and is rough. Have tried new leads and
plugs. Next please? Injectors? O-rings?

Thank you,

Paul

PS Athol. congrats on boy, hope you are all well.

I had the same kind of a problem in my -87 240 GL Injection, and it was
caused by worn distributor cap and rotor arm. The problem was especially bad
in damp weather, but occurred also during dry weather.

I had similar problem on my 1985 240GLT. It even started to
backfire and this caused a hose to blow off the intake side. I was
convinced I had positive crankcase pressure caused by a bad
piston/valve. So convinced I even took the head off only to reveal
bright clean valve seats and all pistons just fine. I put everything
back OK, restarted and just the same backfire. I could only do about
60mph. So I started with a new distributor cap and rotor arm. I put
the rotor arm on outside the shop as it was easy. That was it, end of
problems, no more backfire. I examined the rotor arm under a
microscope and saw a black burn track going to the 'heel' of the rotor
arm, 180° away from the proper contact. Hence the BACKFIRE. How bloody
simple!!

Regards Chris with 20:20 hind sight.
