I called a volvo specialist shop this morning about replacing the cylinder
head on my 1986 240 dl. He said that volvo does'nt make the cylinder heads
for 240s any more, he said that the best thing would be to have a machine
    shop repair the damaged part.
Is it true that new parts for 240s are no longer available?
And, would a repaired cylinder head work as well as new one?

    Also another question,
Is the part that the spark plugs screw into called a cylinder head?

You can get a new one from FCPGroton - don't know who makes it though.

Why would you want a *new* one? I doubt they're made anymore and if they are
it would be ludicrously expensive, probably well over what the whole car is
    worth.

Find a junkyard and get a good used head if the one you have is beyond easy
rebuilding. A serviceable or easily rebuildable head should run you less
than $100, particularly if you can find a U-pull yard.
