1986 240 flooding intake with oil

my 1986 volvo 240 is filling the intake with oil through the pcv/flame trap system, is it blown rings or something stupid im overlooking. i have already installed a new pcv catch can but no difference was made other than it finally wants to idle again. any help appreciated.

Symptoms
smoking like a 4 cylinder 2 stroke engine
hard idle/random rev spikes
pcv tube filling intake with oil
building excessive crank case pressure
