1988 760 2.8 gle won't rev up

Hi all.

Have looked online but can't find anything. So I am here looking for some advice.

Recently bought a 1998 760 prv engined UK model.

Has had the distributor cap changed recently. Other than that I've no history.

If anybody could suggest where to start problem solving.

The engine starts and ticks over fine. fine but will not rev atall.
