I just purchased a mp3 deck (JVC KD-S890) to replace my stock
cd/radio/cassette head unit. One guy at the installation store said he
needs to do the amplifier by-pass when installing the unit and it'll
cost $50(us) to do so. However, another guy at a different store said
all he has to do is disconnect it in the wire hardness and it would
not cost any extra to do so.

Can anybody confirm this? Does he really need to by-pass the
amplifier?

thanks
Brian

If your car is not an SE version, it probably won't have an external
amplifier. (Generally the single CD radios don't use an external amp,
the 3 CD version must use one.) However, disconnecting the speaker
wires at the amp is no harder than disconnecting them at the radio, I
don't see why there'd be an extra charge.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)

Well Mike, you live in Ontario and I am sure you know what Futureshop
people are like.
Anyway, I found a very useful message that you post a while back on
this board, you said SC-816 has an internal amplifier and that leads
me to believe that a amplifier bypass is not needed.
