2002 S40 AC

We just purchased a 2002 S40 with 75,000 miles. The AC seems to take longer
to become cool than my other cars. Should I add some freon? Is there
anything funky about a Volvo AC that might cause a local, non-dealer
mechanic to damage the unit by adding freon?
