Due to another family member on the way, I am needing to find a 7 seater
in the uk.

Before I do anything, I am wondering how safe the extra seats are.
Also, how easy are they to remove or do they fold down when not
required?

I also use the car for work so I do not want to loose tool space.

Are the extra seats still available or would I need to find one with
them fitted.

Also, which engine in the 960 series is most reliable. I would be
tempted with the 3.0 but any reason to avoid this.

I currently have an '89 240 with lots of miles so probably not worth
finding extra seats for this.

Thanks

Why not check on E-Bay (UK version).

Cheers, Peter.

Hello Keith.

I know nothing of the seventh seat issue but what I have been told of the 6
pot 960's and 760's and I am going to get shouted out for saying this is:

They are not as robust as the 4 pots as in the 940's and the 740's. Sorry!

Another alternative is the Turbos despite the word Turbo being on the car
and despite me having TWO speeding bans it would only cost me an extra £20 a
year if I had a Turbo 740 as opposed to the 2.3 740 that I actually got.

And as a footnote. I was told by VOLVO mechanics (More than one) that the 6
cylinder is not as Robust as the 4 cylinder, I am only going on what I have
been told. But I have noticed, if you watch the emissions from Volvos (Sad
Past time) I have noticed that blue (oil Burning) smoke is more
predominantly a 760 6 cylinder problem.

Hey the 960 is still young compared to the 240. I should give them a few
years grace before I should start having a pop at them shouldn't I?

My wife have Volvo 940 turbo ic '97 with extra seats. Extra seats are
light weight and for temporary use. Seats are very rapid to get up and
lay down, approxymately in 30 seconds.
I also use the car for work so I do not want to loose tool space.

Seats are still available on dealers.

940 motors B230FK and B230FT are more economical and stronger. Volvos
red engines are made to last from here to eternity.

As said before the seat fold flat in the rear under the floor where the
spare wheel is. As far as the engine goes it is a myth the the 'sixes' are
not as good. We have a 96 3.0 960 with 185k on it and is no trouble. This is
a hang over from the earlier PRV V6 not the straight ones.

Just look at some of the US site to see how they stack up.
