Hello, I have a 1987 740 estate B200E. Usually start no problem. But
Twice in the last month, when driven about 2 miles from cold, it has
stalled when I have stopped in traffic and refused to restart. After
about 45 minutes it started again. (It used to have a very high idle
speed but when MOT’d they adjusted it and now it sometimes idles
correctly at around 900rpm, but sometimes much slower and sounds on
the point of stalling.) Any suggestions please. Regards Tim

What injection system does this have? US 740s were all LH-Jet but the
Euro stuff had some weird configurations. How's the engine wiring
harness? Unless those are different over there, they always rot.

I’ve recently been through the same problem. Seemed to be a
progressively increasing problem of poor starting over several months.
Eventually a cut-out on the road necessitaing a recovery. Finally
located a failing fuel pump relay located in the centre console. Large
rectangular green module - replaced at a cost of £42 - no problem
    since
