850 power seat wont tilt, but all else works

I can hear the motor turning, but I can't change the seatback angle on my 1996 850 driver's side power seat. Is this something I can do myself. Does the gear strip or come off? Is it something I will likely need parts for?

This is a quick and easy replacement with a used seat from a salvage yard. I got one for only $50, and it took less than an hour from start to finish.
